Charity League is an intergenerational women’s philanthropic organization committed to enhancing the lives of children in our community. As a non-profit organization, we have no overhead and have no paid staff. Our group is one of dedicated volunteers. Through ongoing contact with principals at sixteen Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) and representatives at local hospitals we keep in touch with the needs of community children. Thanks to a grant from Speedway Children’s Charities, Charity League can further enhance its designated “Little People, Big Needs” projects described below.

Providing the Basics

Charity League believes that all children should have the basics and educational tools needed to succeed in school. We assist at-risk children by providing local schools and programs like the Greater Enrichment Project and Freedom Schools with uniforms, backpacks, school supplies and learning essentials to enhance the resources available for these children.

Service Projects

Our support also extends to communities where children are living under challenging circumstances. We understand that even small things can help comfort little ones in times of crisis. Our programs have reached children with autism and visually impaired children, enabling them to expand their learning atmosphere.

Charity League provides:

  • Leveled readers and novel studies to improve literacy
  • STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) objectives in CMS schools.
  • Schools with small group instruction items, tutoring resources, college preparatory materials, and talent development resources.
  • Character, Health, and Physical Education resources to schools, including character puppets with curriculum, building a healthy plate manipulative, and soccer goals and sports items.
  • GEP with after-school enrichment items to supplement their STEAM and literacy centers.
  • Backpacks full of school supplies to Freedom Schools, which offers enrichment to at-risk students.

Hospital Service

hembychildrenshospitalIn honor of our organization’s “roots” in hospital service, we provide a bi-monthly Kindermusik program to bring a sense of joy and normalcy to children of all ages at Presbyterian Hemby Children’s Hospital.

Thanks to a grant from Speedway Children’s Charities, Charity League can further enhance dozens of its designated “Little People, Big Needs” projects described above. The much-appreciated support of the racing community, along with other Charity League Funds, enabled us to touch the lives of almost 13,000 Charlotte-area children in 2014 - 2015.
